I was listening to Mike Vallely's 9 club interviews (posted below) and he was talking about his amazing journey to getting sponsored and how he had to stand his ground to get the iconic graphic he is known for today. He does mention how he absolutely wanted the artist VCJ to design his board, and because of it, he is now associated with the classic era of Powell Peralta of the 80s, instead of the more modern era of the 90.
